How to buy quality Mattresses at cheap prices
Is There Value In Cheap Mattresses?
One of the most underappreciated facets of life is sleep. Very few people receive an adequate amount of sleep each night, but even if they do it is usually of lesser quality than it should be. One of the things that is essential to receiving a good night's sleep is having a good mattress. But a good mattress does not need to be expensive. In fact, cheap mattresses are more a matter of good investigation and shopping skills than anything else. We will spend a few moments talking about mattresses, their purpose, and whether or not there is any value in cheap mattresses.
A mattress must have a number of different features in order to be good. Again, it isn't about price, but about quality and workmanship. A few things to evaluate when looking for a mattress include the following:
1. Springs or Coils? The mattress industry is very clever and inventive, and uses excellent advertising techniques to convince you that one style is better (or worse) than another. But the fact of the matter is that every person is different, and what works for you may not work for your spouse or friends. Many of the more popular gimmicks do not provide any improvement in sleep quality, they only raise the price. If a mattress is well made with proper padding and correct coil thickness then cheap mattresses will work just as well as expensive models.
2. Mattress Padding. The most expensive mattresses usually sport very thick quilted padding on the top layer. It can increase the cost by about 25%. But not only is it not necessary, you can actually purchase an external mattress pad of the same style and thickness for less than $50.
3. Soft or Firm? You will often hear people claim that a firm mattress is the better option for people with a bad back, but if you speak to an expert physician or chiropractor they will tell you that this is completely false. Back injuries can be caused by any of several different problems, and all of them require slightly different methods to resolve them. You should just concern yourself with a comfortable mattress and not worry too much about its firmness.
Here is a list of a few consumer top rated mattresses;
1) Bed In a Box
2) Bob-O-Pedic
3) Bodipedic
4) Comforpedic
5) iComfort
6) Night Therapy
7) Spa Sensation
After you have considered those points there are several other things you need to do. First, you need to be aware of the fact that most mattress salesmen work on commission, and therefore they have a personal incentive to sell you the most expensive mattress they have in the showroom. Do not fall for their tricks. The $100 mattress will be just as good (or bad) as the $800 mattress. The fancy frills and extras often add nothing to the quality.
Second, always make sure you understand their guarantees and warranties. Sometimes salesmen will not clearly outline the finer points of their guarantees. It is therefore upon you to pay extra attention to what is being claimed. A standard warranty will run for at least ten years, and a standard guarantee will run for about 15 to 30 days. Some retailers have what they call a "sleep guarantee" or "comfort guarantee" where they allow you to try out the mattress for several days and can then return it without any extra fees. But sometimes there is a catch, so ask questions before you commit.
Third, when you are in the market for a new mattress you should not purchase until your second visit to the store. No matter what you are told or how hard the "sell" is, do not buy on your first visit. When you are in the showroom try out the various mattresses. Lay on them and see how they feel. Don't worry about being self-conscious or feeling pressured by the salesman. Lay on the mattress for at least ten minutes so that your body can adjust to it. Once you have collected all of your information go home and do research online. Only after you have made your decision at home in your own time should you go back and purchase the mattress you want.
Fourth, this is probably obvious but make sure you shop at a mattress store, not a department store or other store that just happens to have a few mattresses for sale. Even though salesmen can be pushy you really do need to go to a specialty store to locate the better quality mattresses.
A new mattress is an important purchase because most people keep a mattress for ten to thirty years. Mattresses are a significant enough purchase that it is wise to spend as much time investigating the subject as possible. Do not be fooled into thinking that expensive mattresses are your only option. There is no reason to commit to purchasing an expensive mattress when cheap mattresses will do just as well, or even better.
